For example, you cannot place a shock trap, craft another one, and then place your second shock trap somewhere else. Only one trap of each type can be placed at any time. Though you can only carry eight tranq bombs, one shock trap, and one pitfall trap, you can carry enough supplies on you to craft an additional ten tranq bombs and two traps of any kind. If you're going to do this, use a shock trap for its faster activation time. The sooner you can trap it, the sooner you can end the mission and get your rewards. If it runs back to its nest, you can sometimes run ahead of it and drop a trap in his path. All that matters is that the monster's health is around 25% or less. The skull icon doesn't always display when it should, but you can still capture the monster even if it isn't shown. Once the skull icon is displayed, the monster is ready to be trapped-even if it's still fighting you. You don't have to wait for the monster to crawl back to its nest. So, you don't have to worry about elemental resistance when trapping. Shock traps will work even on monsters who are strong against thunder damage. Due to its activation time, a pitfall trap works best against sleeping monsters, or slow-moving monsters who have predictable pathing. A fast-moving monster can walk over the trap, activate it, and run out of the trap's range before the trap snares the monster. Pitfall traps take a couple seconds to activate, once a monster walks over it. Shock traps are simpler to craft, and they activate much faster than pitfall traps do. Shock traps are preferred over pitfall traps. Both methods will capture a nearly-dead monster. However, you can also hit it with two tranq bombs first, and trap it soon after. It's generally easier to trap the monster first, and then stand next to it and drop two tranq bombs. You need one trap and two tranq bombs, and the order of application doesn't matter. You can also tell that it's primed for capture when it starts limping when it runs away. The skull icon tells you that the monster is nearly dead, and can now be captured. Once its health is around 25%, a skull icon will appear over the monster's icon, on your minimap. Here's how to capture anything that isn't an Elder Dragon (which can't be captured):īeat the hell out of the monster.
